Oslo
It all began with an idea of a scent that captured the feeling I had while walking through the wooden staircases of the Oslo Opera House. It was my first visit to this city, and I had managed to snag a last-minute ticket to the opera that evening. Seated at the edge of the wooden balcony just above the stage, as I came here from a cold winter’s night, after a day of wandering through art galleries, little yarn stores, tiny cafés, and perfume boutiques, bundled up in a large, soft cashmere scarf, which protected me from the cold and wind. I was immersed in the scents of Norway: the sharp, crisp northern air, the warm spices in my meals, and the woody aromas of the building around me.
The evening at the opera was the perfect culmination of it all. It felt like a refuge - a cozy, safe space in the middle of a brewing snowstorm. It was a delicate balance of nature and design: a soft barrier created by humans to protect against the elements, yet still allowing them to sense their intensity. The Opera House itself felt like a tribute to the stark, untamed beauty of the Norwegian landscape, a subtly-crafted, circular wooden structure, filled with warmth and the excitement of the audience, spiced wine, and the ethereal music that seemed to float through the air, mysteriously emerging in this building, placed in the midst of frosty fjords.
In composing this fragrance, I worked with contrasts: frosty and cozy, safe and extreme. The blend includes essences of cedarwood and sandalwood, copaiba and elemi, spiced with hints of juniper, a touch of rose, ylang-ylang, palo santo, vetiver, and even a whisper of iris.
The result is a comforting, grounding scent with a refreshing quality, like a soft shawl wrapped around you, as you walk through the fresh, crispy snow of a winter evening.
